Deer, sambar, or jangan (English: deer) are ruminant mammals (ruminan) which are included in the Cervidae family. One characteristic of deer is the presence of horns (deer antlers), and not horns, which are bone growth that develops every year (usually in summer), especially in male deer (although there are some exceptions). There are about 34 species of deer throughout the world that are divided into two major groups: old world deer groups including subfamilies of Muntiacinae and Cervinae; and new world deer groups, Hydropotinae and Odocoilinae.

The deer weight generally ranges from 30-250 kilograms (70 to 600 pounds), although Pudu Utara averages 10 kilograms (20 lb) and the Moose average is 431 kilograms (1,000 lb). They are generally flexible, compact and long, strong legs suitable for rough forest terrain. Deer is also a very good jumper and swimmer. Ruminant deer, or chew, and has four stomach chambers. Deer teeth adapt to eating on vegetation, and like other ruminants, they do not have incisors, do not have heavy pads on the front of their upper jaw. Some deer, like on Rum Island, don't eat meat when it's available. Chinese deer, tufted deer and deer have been enlarged above the fangs that form sharp fangs, while other species often have no fangs at all. The deer cheek teeth have crescent enamel mountains, which allow them to grind various plants.
